A Thousand Splendid Suns

No, this is not a review of the Khaled Hosseini book. It is just that I couldn't think of a title for the post. So came up with this - both to signify the splendid London summers, and whatever has been happening in my personal life.

It has been a very long time since I posted. So much has happened in the last month. So much water has passed under the bridge. To mention everything that transpired in this duration would be like trying to do a recap of what happened in your previous life. Let me try nevertheless (sorry for the MBA-type bullet-point style).

  • My folks were here for a period of three weeks. We went to Paris, Interlaken and Zurich. I relived my Eurotrip and had an amazing time in both the countries. While Paris was hot and sweaty and the Eiffel was transfixing, Switzerland was most literally 'heaven on earth' - with its emerald green lakes and snow-capped peaks, ultra-polite people and tranquil living. After this 8-day European extravaganza, we came back to London. Folks stayed for almost a couple of weeks with me in London and left yesterday.
  • I came out to my sister when I was in Zurich. Not only was she shocked and taken aback, she also went to the extent of telling me that I am lying. Initially, she just refused to believe what I told her, saying that I did not 'behave' like the other homosexuals did. This just goes on to show how deap-seated our pre-conceived notions are, and how easily we stereotype human beings. Then there was a bit of rona-dhona that she doesn't want to get married and wants to be with me all her life. I just told her that she is making a big (and an incorrect) assumption that I would want to be with her all my life, and that was sufficient to calm her down. Now we are back to being normal and I am glad that at the end of it, she accepted everything in a very mature way. The big coincidence was that I came out to her the same day Article 377 was read down. I got to know about the landmark judgement later in the day.
  • I was reading the blog of a family friend of mine. This friend had come over to London last year for work and had stayed with me for a few weeks. He is a really nice guy and we got along extremely well. He never gave me his blog id himself, but I discovered it by chance one day when I was going through my web history. I can't tell you how depressing some of his posts were. This guy has a great job, has a girlfriend, has very loving parents - all in all, he has almost everything what one aspires for. It was an absolute shock to read such melancholic posts. I mean really, is everyone in this world perpetually depressed??!!
  • I am going to Delhi for 4 days tonight. My sis is getting engaged on this Sunday, and I am so so so so so happy for her. :) Not only that, I would get to see my grandparents, my aunt, my friends and would get to see Delhi after a gap of 6 months! Can't wait to be there!
Rest laters! Gotta go and pack now. :((((

Indian marriages are the most enjoyable occasions.

@Swats -> Thanks. :)
Sisters are adorable, indeed!

@USP -> Thanks, and yes, it was mean. :(

@Rakesh -> Thank you.

@Renu -> I used to absolutely hate Indian marriages, but I guess when your own sister is the one getting married, things change and become exciting.
We generally roamed around in the city and sis did some shopping for herself. The best thing was of course the high street. Dont even remember now where we ate n all. Was in the city for just 2 days after all, in which we went to Pilatus on one of the days.

Didn't really like Pilatus. There is nothing over there.
Yes, went to Jungfraujoch for the second time, and it was amazing. Better than last time. When we went there, it was bright sunshine and the view was too good. And after some time, it started snowing. So we saw the sun as well as the snow. I think thats the best place to go if you are in Switzerland. Interlaken itself is heaven on earth.
