As my 2-week long vacation comes to an end, I feel nothing but sadness.
It was a trip that evoked emotions ranging from exhilaration (such as when I had my first whiff of the Delhi air) to irritation (when mom emotionally blackmailed me to stay at home rather than go visit friends), from nostalgia (when I visited my engineering college campus and left shoeprints on the office doors of the professors I hated) to guilt (when I ditched NJ and preferred to sleep peacefully in my duvet than go meet her), from delight (when I went on a shopping spree - Yes, ME!!) to confusion (whether to come out to my sis or not).
It was fun, and it is ending.
It would be painful to put down a day to day description of what happened. However, I would try to summarize the major happenings.
For the first week, I did practically nothing. Sis had given me an ultimatum NOT to go and visit any of my friends. All my time was at her disposal and I wasn't allowed to go anywhere while she was in Delhi.
It was only on the day I landed that I went to my close friends' reception. I met up with NJ and we went there together. It was fun meeting NJ as well as the couple after such a long time. I knew both the guy as well as the girl. The guy was with me when I was backpacking all over Europe, while the girl was with me when I was doing my engineering. Both of them went to the same business school (different from mine) and fell in love.
After that I met up with no one else till the 10th (Saturday). Went on a Dilli-Darshan on Saturday (the day after my sis flew back to Melbourne), met up with 4 of my b-school friends, and had an amazing time.
The next three days were spent at home. I just couldn't move out as my bhua (dad's sister) had come in from Boston and mom had asked me to stay home to give her company. I was pissed, to say the least. Sometimes this whole Indian-family-emotional-blackmail-thingy really gets to me. Will maybe write a post on that later.
Met up with NJ on Wednesday. We went to our engineering school campus, but sadly, it was a holiday that day. Met one of the professors though, and he just did not recognize me. Well, how on earth could he have recognized someone who never attended any of his classes in the first place. And NJ is another piece. She introduced me as - 'He is working for XYZ bank in London'. I mean atleast tell the poor guy that I studied in the same institute and was taught by him. Am sure he must have thought that I am NJ's fiance or something.
Made a plan to meet up with NJ again on Thursday and visit the campus once again just to meet those %$#%$# professors. But when she called up on Thursday morning, I told her how sleepy I was and decided to give the meeting a miss. :( On the afternoon of the same day, caught up with another good friend of mine and we did some book shopping at Khan Market. Have a long inventory of books to read now. Will post the list some other time.
Now there are 2 more days to go. Will spend them at home. Don't want to go back. And there is not much point as well, cos the bank I work for has declared some scaringly huge losses, and rumour has it that a big firing is round the corner. Ugh. :(((
